It All Starts with a Plan

July 5, 2025

Before the mood boards, before the materials, before we even begin to talk about finishes — we start with a plan. A spatial plan.

It’s not the most glamorous part of interior design. There are no shiny tiles, no brushed brass, no ambient glow from wall sconces. But don’t let that fool you. This is the foundation. The part that quietly carries the weight of the entire project.

When we create a spatial plan, we’re not just drawing boxes on a page. We’re mapping how you live. We’re thinking about how you enter the home, where you pause, where you put your bag, where your feet naturally take you. We consider transitions — how one space flows into another. Where the energy builds. Where it softens. Where connection happens. Where solitude is honoured.

We look at how you cook, how you gather, how you rest. Whether the kitchen island should be a hub for conversation or a solo space for winding down with a glass of wine. Whether the bathroom should feel like a retreat or a functional zone to move through quickly in the morning rush. It all comes out in the plan.

It’s in this moment that we uncover what’s truly important to you — not just what you like, but how you want to live.

And then, the magic starts to build.

Once the spatial plan is resolved, we move into the 3D phase — and this is where it gets exciting. We start to see the volumes. We play with height and proportion, light and shadow. We get to walk through the space, feel how the ceiling lifts here or lowers there. We discover new opportunities — how a window brings in the afternoon light just so, how a sightline could capture a view or create a focal point. This is where the plan begins to breathe.

And yes, the plan may evolve. A wall might move. A storage zone might shift. That’s the beauty of 3D — it reveals everything. There’s nowhere to hide. Every design decision is tested and refined in real space.

But the intention never changes. The original spatial thinking remains — anchoring every material, every form, every layer that follows. It is the quiet structure behind the beauty.

Because good design doesn’t just happen. It’s built, step by step. And it all starts with a plan.
