Set in the leafy, heritage-listed suburb of Wahroonga, this 1929 Federation bungalow has been lovingly reimagined for a modern family of five. Originally built by a local nurse, the home carried the modest proportions and charm typical of the period — a main corridor with small adjoining rooms and a rabbit warren of separate living spaces. While full of character, it simply couldn’t meet the demands of contemporary life, entertaining, or extended family visits.
The design brief focused on preserving the home's character while creating warm, functional spaces that reflect the family's current lifestyle. Period details like timber wainscoting, fretwork, and bespoke joinery add richness and texture, while chevron timber flooring brings warmth and rhythm. The colour palette nods to the area’s Heritage Green, complemented by natural stone, marble mosaics, and white walls to maintain a light, inviting atmosphere. In the kitchen, hidden appliances and concealed storage support both functionality and entertaining. The bathroom, though compact, cleverly serves as both a family space and a refined guest powder room. Every element was carefully crafted to honour the home’s history while embracing modern living, resulting in a sophisticated, & functional family home.

"The palette pays homage to the area’s Heritage Green, used across key joinery elements and punctuated with layers of natural stone, marble mosaics, and white walls that keep the spaces feeling light, bright, and inviting."

"Period detailing was reinstated and reinterpreted — timber wainscoting, fretwork, and bespoke joinery bring richness and texture, while chevron timber flooring anchors the interiors with warmth and rhythm."

"Our brief was clear: retain the soul of the home, but create spaces that are warm, functional, and deeply connected to how the family lives now."
"Every detail was considered with one goal in mind: to honour the home’s history while gently pushing it forward."
